If you aren't counted, or if you fail to identify yourself as Taiwanese, then the particular needs of the Taiwanese American community will not be met. The unique need of Taiwanese Americans such as yourself, your family, and your entire community will be neglected by businesses, educational institutions, public safety institutions, health organizations, and the government, because according to the Census data, the "Taiwanese" population is not significant, and prior to 2000, did not even exist!!! To be recognized by the government as Taiwanese, you must start by identifying yourself as Taiwanese on the Census form.
